THE PIOUS EMPRESS THEODORA

 

  1. The faithful Empress and strict follower of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
  2. The daughter of the Syrian Orthodox Church
  3. Was born in the year 500 at Maboogh, Mesopotamia
  4. She is the daughter of a Syrian Orthodox Priest who brought her up full of good manners and true Orthodox faith.
  5. Studied several sciences, and God The Almighty gifted her with both body and soul beauty.
  6. On her wedding the famous Syrian historian Mor Gregorious Youhanon Bar Hebrew, who combines all what was said about this event by other Syrian Historians such as John of Ephesus, Jacob of Edessa and Mor Michael the Great {Rabo} saying: - "When Justanian headed to Persia, arrived Maboogh and they mentioned to him Theodora the daughter of an Orthodox Priest, he proposed to her, yet her father would only approve and bless the wedding if Justanian would undertake that he will not force Theodora to follow the Chalcedonian rites.
  7. With the help of the pious Empress Theodora, several churches and monasteries were constructed. Further, several of the unbelievers became believers in Our Lord Jesus Christ as she supported the idea of spreading the good news.
  8. Empress Theodora exerted every effort and succeeded in ordaining Mor Yacoub Burd'ono as Universal Archbishop by the hands of Mor Theodosyous and other Bishops accompanying him at the time.
  9. Empress Theodora rendered a great and immense service to her Mother Holy Church the Syrian Orthodox Church.
  10. Empress Theodora departed this earthly life to the heavenly chambers on the 28th of June 548 leaving a great legacy behind her.
